"A great many activists and concerned people ask, quite rightly, what alternative form of social organization can be imagined that might overcome the grave flaws -- often real crimes -- of contemporary society in more far-reaching ways than short-term reform. Parecon is the most serious effort I know to provide a very detailed possible answer to some of these questions, crucial ones, based on serious thought and careful analysis."

Re: Parecon
Mon, March 7, 2005 - 5:55 PMAyn Rand is probably turning in her grave as we speak at the sight of the following quote fm the ParEcon.org site:
"The main institutions are workers and consumers councils utilizing self managed decision making, balanced job complexes, remuneration according to effort and sacrifice, and participatory planning."
Specifically, she would probably see major issues w/the concept of "remuneration according to effort and sacrifice". Effort and sacrifice are nice, but if not productive than who cares and why should any one be compensated on that basis, would likely be her position ;-) Sorry to interject that, but having just finished "Atlas Shrugged", even where it's not all palatable to me, it forces a smile to my face at the thought of this. -

Re: Parecon
Mon, March 7, 2005 - 6:33 PMyou have to look at any system as an interconected process
effort and sacrifice one gets remunerated for, but ultimately workers and consumers councils decide what gets produces, if someone doesn't perform they don't keep their job because of family ties or inherettence as happerns today, they get placed into a more suitable position
read a book on parecon
if you have the stamina to get through the dogmatic drivel of rand, you should have no problem with the logical arguments opne to revision, of parecon -
