Aside from invoking an actual Chomsky dialogue on this tribe (grrr!), I am interested in viewpoints based upon both American observations, as well as those who live/have worked/work-studied in Europe of late.
The EU has, obviously, changed the rules of the game in many previously Demo.Socialist influenced states in Europe, since Noam wrote this passage. What I'm curious to discover is whether these workers are still finding support from the top-down; a sense of that 'worker control' now that multinationalism and homogenized capitalism has sucked so much out of the culture of work throughout the world.

Tue, January 1, 2008 - 3:23 PMWell, I am going to Australia to study qualitative research. It is barely taught here. QR gives voice to those who don't have the power. It is about exploring individual meaning rather than taking a show of hands.
Au also has more of a form of participatory government and management. I say more -of because it is not perfect. It can be "bought".
It mandates that all persons affected by a descision, MUST be given an equal say in that decision.
See why it's not big here ...yet? (BTW G-phil, is is supposedly being used in Washington State).
Anyway AU is much more progressive than the US. Power/knowledge/control ...we'll believe anything to keep it. Even creationism!
In fact, I believe the push to mandate creationism is a ploy by those inpower to test their followers faithfullness to the party. Kind of like drinking the kool-aid.
